Extending 'permission to stay' at Kap Cheong

Lets put a few things in perspective. Before I retired in 2002 I was clocking some 48 long-haul International flights each year. I had been doing this for the previous 4 years too. Before then, maybe 10 to 12 long-haul flights each year for the previous 12 years or more. In short, I have had my full fill of International flights and, for one reason at least, I came to Thailand to find the easy, peaceful life away from the hussle and bussle of International airports and the jet-set scene. Now Immigration may have a few quirks and foilables when it comes to extending one's permission to stay but I can say in all honesty I have never once been turned away through lack of documentation or sent into Kap Cheown for additional photcopies. I have usually been in and out of Immigration within the hour for the past 11 years with virtually no trouble at all. All it takes to achieve an easy extension of stay is a little bit of reading on the internet, and this forum probably provides all the information you need, a little bit of preparation and a willingness to go the extra mile in the preparation of your documentation. I have never seen the need for International travel once a year, plus 3 or 4 border runs each year, plus all the assoicated expense, as necessary to legally stay in Thailand. Follow the simple guide lines that have already been published in this forum and you should find it relatively quick, easy and cheap to extend your stay without the need to ever leave Thailand. :D

I guess if you don't mind Thai officials poking around into your bank accounts even if supplied with an Embassy letter and making a completely unnecessary visit to inspect your living arrangements, and you don't mind answering a lot of dumb questions about your private life then I guess it's ok.

I'll put up with it, I have nothing to hide. If they want to spend a couple of hours visiting our marital home so be it.

A TEM

Because they do not have a home country license and they are a dumb ass. and try to use it and get busted as only the 5 year DL being a smart card is accepted . And before you ask Yes I have rented cars and driven on a 5 year Thai licenses in the USA and you do not need a IDP. I know of others that have done the same thing in the UK, Austraila and Canada.

As we know that any fool can receive a drivers license is in Thailand - believe it or not , most states in America allow one to drive with it.
(That made me realize how possibly fooked up some of the drivers on America's highways really are.)

People with sufficient means and smarts with a Thai driver's license doesn't bother me at all. I doubt Somchai who drives a beat up old truck in Issan is doing much driving on the streets of America.

I also have nothing to hide and am prepared to put up with it (assuming it's still in operation next June). And for those very reasons there'll be no cash involved either.

I beg to differ on that one Ivor. It's probably the only non Asian country that they do know. However, asking them to point it out on a world map will likely have them fukked!
Agree. My comment was 1/2 in jest having taught 'Tourism' to some who have never left the province.

In the past when we used to know the permanent staff in KCI, back in the good old days, we may have been guilty of taking a little Christmas present in the form of some biscuits and instant coffee. However, since the re-organsisation to the new offices and the constant change of staff even the practice of giving coffee and biscuits has stopped. I will put the 100 Baht change from 2,000 Baht in the tip box but that is it.
